Research opportunities: Projects in Postcolonial Studies at FU Berlin with possibility of DAAD funding

The Department of English at the Free University of Berlin is a vibrant department of one of the foremost arts and humanities universities in Europe (listed at place 3 among European faculties after Oxford and Cambridge in the 2008 THES ranking).
The teaching members of the English Department research across the full range of the historical periods, from medieval studies to contemporary cultural studies.
Under the tutelage of Prof. Russ West-Pavlov, an engaged team of postcolonial studies are working on African, Australian, Canadian and Caribbean literatures.
We are particularly interested in postcolonial film and visial studies, postcolonial historiography, and the semiotics of colonial and postcolonial spaces. We are currently have or are forging exchanges with universities around the world, with particularly strong links to partner researchers in Australia and Africa.

We welcome proposals for masters or doctoral research in the area of postcolonial studies, in particular under the aegis of the DAAD African PhD scholarships programme (closing date for applications in September of each year).

You may contact Russell West-Pavlov at westpav@zedat.fu-berlin.de
