The Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science is an independent, non-profit research organization. The primary goal of the Max Planck Society is to promote research at its own institutes. The institutes perform basic research in the interest of the general public in the natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. The 78 research facilities are organized into the Chemistry, Physics and Technology Section; the Biology and Medicine Section; and the Human Sciences Section.
