Lecturers for German Language at African Universities

Objectives of the programme

Promotion of German studies and German language outside Germany. Imparting and consolidating the knowledge of the German culture, society, history and politics.


A German lecturer can be invited by the university abroad, in consultation with the DAAD/ German Foreign Office.


The lecturer becomes a full staff member of the host university and receives a regular local salary.

Provisions by DAAD
  • Travel and relocation allowance;
  • sufficient financial aid which may vary in regard to qualification, task, marital status, country etc.;
  • professional supervision in host country
Selection of lecturers

By experts of the discipline, partly binational. Duration of position between two and five years

Requirements for applicants
  • University degree, usually in German Studies,
  • additional qualification for „German as a Foreign language“;
  • if necessary doctorate and special knowledge;
  • applications of professionals below 40 years are preferred
