Short Term Lecturership
Objectives of the Programme
Academic teaching staff posted at a German University can be sponsored by DAAD to teach abroad for a period of a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 6 months.
The Host University in Africa can invite a German University Lecturer to take over teaching duties within the standard programmes or offer special compact courses for postgraduate students and members of academic staff. He/she should teach for a minimum of eight hours per week.
The host University is expected to extend an invitation letter to the teacher. This must be accompanied by a detailed job description form which is available from the DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi or from the head office in Bonn.
An application must be made at least two months ahead of the next sitting of the selection committee. The selection committee sits only four times a year in Bonn, so it is important to plan well ahead.
The host university is expected to contribute to the programme, either in the form of a local salary, honorarium, accommodation or comparable benefits for the application to be successful.
Terms of support for the guest lecturer
If the application is successful, DAAD will cover travel expenses and will pay a supplement to the living expenses of the German guest lecturer.
