Dear Applicant,

Information on application for a Full Grant/ Sandwich PhD Scholarship

We do not accept incomplete or improperly filled applications!!

All application documents must be in triplicate!

The necessary documents should be in the following order for each of the three sets:

  • Yellow cover sheet.
  • Green DAAD application form.
  • Hand-signed Curriculum Vitae (please use the europass specimen form at http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu), including list of publication, if any
  • Ph.D. proposal (10 – 15 pages; 1,5 spacing, 2,5cm space left, 2cm right)
  • Abstract of the proposal on one page (please include name and title of the proposal)
  • electronic copy of the proposal in Word format to bengelstorff@daadafrica.org
  • Detailed work plan for 3 years including time schedule covering the whole period of the scholarship
  • Confirmation from a German Professor stating that he/she will supervise the applicant for his/ her Ph.D. thesis (in English) OR an admission/ eligibility letter from a structured PhD course
  • 2 recommendation letters of academic referees (in English)
  • Certificates (each certified as true copy of the original certificate)
  • Master’s certificate
  • Transcripts for each Year
  • Bachelor’s certificate
  • Transcripts for each Year
  • A/O-level or KCSE certificate               
  • Confirmation of funding for research during field studies

Additional in case of Sandwich Scholarship application:

  • Copy of the letter of registration at local university
  • Copy of the letter of acceptance from a local supervisor
  • Tuition fee waiver from local university (DAAD will not cover tuition fees)

APPLICATION DEADLINE: END OF SEPTEMBER EACH YEAR

Your application can only be considered for the next calendar year.

We recommend that you let us have your documents at your earliest convenience so that missing documents can still be brought in time.

Further Information:

Every scholarship holder will attend a language course in Germany prior to studies:

Full grant scheme: 4 - 6 months, starting usually in October or April
Sandwich scheme: 2 - 4 months, starting in June or December
